First, I don't know that what is a 'wide release film' has a set definition. The folks at Boxofficemojo count anything that plays in more than 600 theaters at a time but I arbitrarily decided to go with films that opened in at least 1,000 theaters. Based on that definition there were only 108 wide release films in 2014 excluding the approx 10 animated films and the one wide release Disney Documentary "Bears" (although that film did feature full frontally nude bears).
When I was doing the nude scene list there used to be over 130 wide release films every year excluding animated films. The decrease in the number of films may be one reason the box office will end up down around 4% this year from last. (It's down 5.3% right now according to Boxofficemojo). As some of you may not know, the industry counts the y/e on the final weekend. So that would be January 4, 2015. Also, boxofficemojo includes the entire gross of a film released in 2014 in the 2014 box office, so it's possible according to bom that this year could still at least come close to last year's box office.
Anyway, I'm sure nobody cared about that preamble. According to my looking over Mr. Skin 15 of these 108 films had female nudity. There may be the odd film that also has nudity that was released late in the year that
Mr. Skin is not aware of, though I doubt it. I don't know if any of these films had the nudity added in for the video release.
