In the movie Ingrid portrays Madame de Montespan, a French noblewoman and the most celebrated royal mistress of King Louis XIV.
Despite being married to Maria Theresa of Spain at the time, having kids with her, Louis XIV and Madame de Montespan had several illegitimate children together, many of whom were legitimized by the king and became very important at court, married to other royal lines and later Bourbon kings descended from these unions.
The main story of the movie revolves around Jean-Baptiste Lully, who was the main
composer and the dance instructor for Louis. He falls in love with his
king, but this love is never returned by the emperor.
I am not sure if the relationship with Madame de Montespan was important for the movie’s plot, but it did produce enough material for a nice calisthenics sex scene and the composer provides for some chill music during the act.
