A review for the movie says it’s based on a true story of a family who discovered the way to legally win at roulette. They were known as The Pelayos and they won hundreds of thousands of dollars at casinos around the world with an infallible method based on the roulette wheel's imperfection.
Wikipedia page says the head of the family, Gonzalo García-Pelayo Segovia¸ developed a legal statistics-and-betting system that allowed him to win more than 1.2 million euros in the game of roulette, in the early 1990s, with the help of his family.
Later Pelayo also developed a method to raise his odds at betting on online poker games.
