A few caps and a video clip of
Barbara Bouchet from movie 40 gradi all'ombra del lenzuolo.
The movie consists of five short comic stories, all unrelated to each other, except for containing some sexual humor.
Barbara stars in the first bit as a respectable woman, who decides to accept an indecent proposal from a shady man who offers her 20 million lire to have sex three times.
While it sounds like
Demi Moore’s ploy in Indecent Proposal, the financial benefits for Barbara’s character for having sex with a stranger don’t look that appealing at the first glance.
20 million might sound a lot, but If memory serves me well, lira was like Zimbabwe’s currency, lots of zeros and no value. I always had coins for 500, 1000 lire lying somewhere and when I found myself in Italy, I would need a fistful of coins for an ice cream alone.
Let’s see, the Italian issue of Playboy magazine from December 1980 was priced at 3000 Lire, let’s say it’s worth the same as the US counterpart, which was sold for $2.5 at that time, so that’s around $16,000 for having sex three times. Doesn’t sound that much, but I guess that money still had some value back in 1975 when the movie was filmed.
Comes October 1976, the US government officially changed the definition of the dollar; references to gold were removed from statutes. From this point, the international monetary system was made of pure fiat money.
It kind of figures, as you go from digging for money to printing it, that the value of money decreases. Comes 1993, and you have to pay a million dollars for three a night of sex
