Here’s a quick update on the recent celebrity leaks of photos and videos originating from iCloud backups and other online and offline storage mediums.

Emma Watson seem to be the most upset with the invasion of their privacy, or perhaps they are the only one that are being reported on to send their lawyers after the people disseminating their private photos.

Analeigh Tipton or any other celeb involved are any less upset knowing that someone got access to their private photos, videos, and god know what else, and is posting this stuff on the internet for everyone to see.
Here’s my personal experience with iCloud hacks for an intermezzo…
I got my iCloud hacked last week, so I kind of know firsthand that if nothing else, they are very upset knowing that they are helpless to do anything about it.
In my case someone got access to my iCloud, I take it he guessed my password after I used a similar login info on some shady site as the one I used on iCloud, marked my iPhone stolen and set a passcode on the phone which locked my iPhone with screen lock saying please contact
[email protected] to unlock your iPhone.
I was able to login into iCloud and change my password, but there was no way to remove the passcode, so I was left with two options, to call Apple’s support center and hope for a miracle or erase my phone and install a backup from iCloud.
I imagined a call to the support center… “Please hold, you’re the 177th person in the waiting line, if you wish to wait for an operator and set the Guinness World Record in the longest call in history, press 1”, so I went with option two and erased my phone and installed a backup from iCloud via iTunes.
But even that didn’t go smoothly as one would expect. Since my simcard is the only way to access the internet, I had to find my old android phone,and use it as a hotspot to access the internet and I kind of knew this won’t work as I have a limited data plan and the backup is some 5GB of data. I try the restore with my iTunes first, but after a few minutes I get a message that there are no recent updates for my iPhone, I guess software is out of date. So I go to icloud.com, there’s like 13 icons on that page, I check my data transfer for that page… 50MB… let’s not give it any more tries and wait for the morning and do the restore at work…. which, luckily, worked.
I am not so worried that hacker got access to any incriminating personal photos as I don’t take any. Although, I know for some that if you’d take them out of the context, the ones in which I shave my beard for example… going from Jesus, to Lemmy and then Freddy, and if someone posted solely the next one in line, I’d have to explain a few things.
Since I don’t know if the hacker downloaded my backup as well and can browse through it, I still have a tedious task ahead of me of changing all my passwords on various sites I frequent just to be sure, that I don’t make matters worse.
