The series revolves around Louis XIV, the Sun King, who, in order to consolidate his power, moves his court from Paris to the Palace of Versailles where he can have other members of the court and nobility under his control.
Alexia appears in the opening sequence of the series portraying a young nymph the king sees in a vision during a dream, saying:
“You were anointed by God, blessed by the sun, but you do not yet possess what really matters. The power. Without it, you will perish. And all of France along with you. For a king without a castle, is no king, at all.”
Reminds me of this
Monty Python’s bit on King Arthur and Excalibur, with Versailles being Louis’ Excalibur.
