The editor-in-chief of Playboy Indonesia was acquitted Thursday of charges that he violated the Muslim nation's indecency laws by publishing pictures of scantily clothed women.
Erwin Arnada had faced a maximum punishment of nearly three years in prison in a case closely watched by strict Muslims, who have loudly protested since the toned-down version of the American magazine hit Indonesian newsstands a year ago.
Efran Basyuning, presiding judge of the South Jakarta District Court, said pictures of scantily dressed women, some in underwear with their breasts partially exposed, could not be categorized as pornography under the country's criminal law.
Arnada called the ruling was a victory for free speech.
"Playboy Indonesia is grateful to the readers and advertisers who have supported the magazine through this difficult time," he told reporters.
Outside the courthouse, a protest erupted involving about 100 members of the Islamic Defenders' Front, a small group with a history of attacking bars and nightclubs. More than 600 police officers armed with two water cannons stood by in case of violence.
"This is a bitter pill," said one demonstrator, Bachtiar Ali. "Do we have to wait until our wives and daughters are raped? We will keep fighting. Pornography as a moral crime that destroys the nation's faith."
Conservative Muslims smashed up Playboy's offices in south Jakarta after the magazine was launched. The magazine kept publishing, but moved its editorial offices to mostly Hindu Bali island.
Indonesia is a secular country with more Muslims than any other in the world, some 190 million. While most practice a moderate form of the faith, fundamentalists have been pushing hard to impose strict Islamic law.
Pornographic films on video, though illegal, also are sold more or less openly at stores across the country and some magazines are more sexually graphic than Playboy.

Scarlett Johansson is insisting on a no-nudity clause in all her movie contracts.
The curvaceous 22-year-old is determined to be seen as a serious actress and now won’t commit to any role without the clause.
A source is quoted by Britain’s Daily Express newspaper as saying:
“Scarlett is still very young and is aware the roles she takes are going to set out where her career as an actress takes her in the future.
“She doesn’t want to fall into being too controversial or too trashy so nude scenes are out for now.”
However, Scarlett may have to rethink her naked stance if she lands the role of adult film superstar Jenna Jameson in a movie about her life.
The ‘Lost In Translation’ star has reportedly been singled out by the X-rated actress to play her in a film movie adaptation of her autobiography ‘How To Make Love Like A Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale’.
Jenna said: “We’re looking at Scarlett Johansson. She’s my choice. I think she’s beautiful.”
Scarlett is also said to be very keen on the role and is even hoping it could pave the way for Oscar glory.

The legal wrangling over Scott Stapp and Kid Rock's on-camera sexual escapade aboard a tour bus in 1999 is finally running out of gas.
On Friday the former Creed frontman settled his invasion-of-privacy lawsuit against adult film company World Wide Red Light District, which he had accused of unlawfully selling downloads of a videotaped romp involving Stapp, Kid Rock and four groupies.
While Stapp's attorney, William Sayegh, refused to disclose just how much money his client will receive, only saying that the litigation was resolved "in Scott Stapp's favor."
Meanwhile, as part of the agreement, Red Light has agreed to halt any further distribution of the X-rated footage.
The porn flick purveyors admitted that they did not own the rights to the tape, Sayegh said. The deal means "a private matter remains private," he added.
Kid Rock obtained a preliminary injunction in February 2006 barring Red Light from posting the video on the creatively named Websites it snatched up for that purpose—kidrocksextape.com and scottstappsextape.com.
Stapp's case charging Red Light with invasion of privacy and misappropriation of likeness was scheduled to go to trial next week if the opposing factions hadn't settled up. The "Arms Wide Open" rocker was seeking damages to compensate for the loss of reputation, embarrassment, pain and suffering and emotional distress he incurred when the footage made the Internet rounds.
In his lawsuit, filed in March 2006 in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, Stapp stated that the "video diary" from his and Kid Rock's 1999 tour was stolen from a safe in his house, an allegation that Red Light denied having anything to do with.
"Obviously, someone wants to hurt me, and doesn't want me to be successful in my solo career," Stapp told AP Radio last year.
His partner in cavorting, however, didn't exactly agree with that sentiment. "[Stapp] is the idiot because it's out," Kid Rock said in response to Stapp's out-to-get-me theory. "I'm holding him responsible."
In fact, the finger has been pointed in all different directions since the performers were caught with their proverbial pants down.
Last April, a Miami judge dismissed an invasion-of-privacy lawsuit filed by the self-proclaimed female "star" of the 45-minute home movie because the plaintiff refused to state her real name in court documents.
Jane Doe had alleged that Stapp and Red Light had conspired to turn a buck from the tape without her permission.
In any case, Stapp, 33, seems to have settled down somewhat since his days of vice and video. The Great Divide artist and wife Jaclyn welcomed their first child together in January, daughter Milán Hayat Stapp, and his second solo album is due out sometime this year.

A photographer who snapped nude pictures of
Lara Bingle today denied he hed "betrayed" her by making money on the pictures.
The row broke out between Gavin O'Neill, one of Australia's most successful nude photographers, and Lara Bingle's management who claim the photos were taken as test-shots when she was only 17.
O'Neill contends they were taken with the full knowledge and support of her agency.
O'Neill, who has photographed Penelope Cruz, Megan Gale and Tara Moss, told a Sydney newspaper he was being blamed for the "mis-management" of her career.
"This shoot was done with the full knowledge and support of her agency who set up the initial meeting to discuss the shoot in the first place," O'Neill stated in an e-mail.
"So they are well aware of the exact purpose of publishing them in European magazines, as agreed, so I find it all a bit confusing as to why her agency would now slander me in the media, accusing me of cashing in."
An influx of curious Aussie men, eager to get a glimpse of the nude pictures of Bingle, have crashed the GQ Germany Web site after it published nude photos of the popular model.
After it was revealed the nude photos were on the GQ Germany site, hordes of visitors flocked to the site, crashing its servers and resulting in the GQ Germany team to replace the photos with this message:
"Welcome to GQ Germany, Australia! It's always nice to have visitors from Down Under, but our servers were not prepared for this sudden rush. So our work here was done, before it even started. Cheers mates!"
The nude photographs of Bingle - including one showing her sitting in a field of long grass, and another with her wearing pink silk sleeves with the ocean behind her - surfaced last week after men's magazine Zoo Weekly, revealed it would be using them in their defence of legal action brought by Bingle for defamation, misleading conduct and breach of copyright.

I usually try and make vidcaps out of PAL
DVD source since they have slightly better resolution than NTSC. As I was going through the frames of what I
believe is a Thai version of Perfume: The Story of a Murderer I quickly noticed
that all the boobs were blurred. And the
biggest sex orgy at the end of the movie quickly turned out in to a longest blurry
scene in a movie worthy of a Guinness Book of Records.
Country that’s a synonym for child sex
tourism gets upset over boobs in movies. I have a feeling that they are putting
their efforts in a wrong direction.

Nudes of Karoline Herfurth and Jessica Schwarz from Perfume: The Story of a Murderer
A few nude caps from movie Perfume: The
Story of a Murderer. Movie was a big hit in Germany and rest of the Europe but for
some strange reason it didn’t make much money in US.
Movie is about a Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, who
is on a quest to make a perfect perfume. An old perfume maker Guissepe Baldini (Dustin
Hoffman) explains to him that each perfume is made out of twelve basic elements
and one additional essence that will bring out and dominate the others. While a
normal perfume maker would chose among flowers, roots, fruits, seeds, leaves, resins
or woods for basic elements, Jean-Baptiste decided to use a scent of a woman
for his perfume.
That’s where, otherwise a perfect story, got
ruined for me since his first two different elements were identical twins. I
don’t know, it just doesn’t make sense to use identical twins as two different essences.
As Jean-Baptiste is collecting his elements
you also get to see his victims naked afterwards. And in the final scene under
the influence of his perfect perfume a whole town starts one big sex orgy. It’s
certainly bigger than that one from Sex Sells movie (see previous article).
List of nude actresses in Perfume is rather
long Karoline Herfurth, and Jessica Schwarz show the most skin. Also appearing
nude are Sara Forestier, Laura Vidal Traver, Cristina Solá and several girls I was
unable to ID, not to mention the sex orgy scene with lots of naked ladies. Grenouille’s
13th element, Rachel Hurd-Wood, looks very hot, but unfortunately doesn’t
show any skin.
Movie comes out on a DVD on April 30th
in UK.

Here are some recent celebrity nudes from a
couple of upcoming DVD releases.
Priscilla Barnes is still stripping off for
camera although she’s over 50 now. In movie Sex Sells: The Making of Touche she
has a couple of sex scenes with several shots of her bouncing boobs.
Lisa Jay also takes off her clothes but you
only get to see her from behind. She has a nice firm ass though.
Otherwise movie Sex Sells has rather
interesting plot, filming of a world’s record sex orgy, although I think you
need more than five couples having sex in order to get into Guinness Book of
records.
Janet Edwards plays a nude prostitute in Smokin'
Aces. That’s also the only scene worth mentioning regarding nudity in that
movie.
Smoking Aces comes out on a DVD on April 17th.
Tammy Filor shows her boobs a few times
during a sex scene in movie Penny Dreadful. Otherwise Rachel Miner has a
leading role in the movie but she doesn’t show any skin.
Movie was released on DVD on March 27th.
