In the movie Haydée portrays a housewife whose husband goes on a business trip. She decides to apply to work as a secretary for a woman living in a castle outside Rome. There she is slowly turned into an obedient slave who ends up auctioned to a highest bidder.
The auction sparked my interest, it was done in Italian liras, so not having any idea what a price of a slave would be I did some googling.
Move was filmed in 1969, starting price was 1,000,000 liras and they would raise the price by 500,000 liras. So, in 1969 terms, 1,000,000 liras was about $1,600 they raised the bid by $800 and the ending price she was sold for was 5,000,000 liras or $8,800. For some perspective, a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 model was selling for $3139.
Then there was also adjusted for inflation price for the Mustang in today’s terms, $21,247.So I googled gold standard and
exchange rates… and basically everything went to shit in 1971 when the United States unilaterally terminated convertibility of the US dollar to gold foreign central banks, effectively ending the Bretton Woods system.

Gillian Jacobs will be guest on The Late Late Show with James Corden tomorrow. She voiced a couple of character in two new HBO’s animated series. Dakota on Ten Year Old Tom, which premiers on Thursday, and Mera on upcoming Aquaman: King of Atlantis which premiers on HBO on October 14th.
Beth Behrs will be guest on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Thursday. She’ll talk about the fourth season of The Neighborhood which airs on CBS.
Léa Seydoux will be guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday. She stars in the new James Bond movie, No Time to Die, which will finally get its theatrical release starting in Europe tomorrow.
Rebecca Ferguson will be guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Friday. She stars in the new Dune movie, which was already released in some parts of Europe, theatrical US release is set for October 22nd.

Following
his passing, a news article paying tribute to the French actor Jean-Paul
Belmondo, accompanied the article with a photo of Belmondo in a bed with
actress Anna Karina from movie Une femme est une femme. I decided to check the
movie and it turned the photo wasn’t a screen grab from the movie, but a photo taken
on the set during the filmmaking.
To
compensate my slight disappointment of not being able to see the exact seem scene
in the movie as shown in the article’s photo, I grabbed a copy of movie The
Magus in which Anna has a nude scene. No disappointment there. Beside Anna, Michael
Caine, Anthony Quinn, mesmerizing Candice Bergen, and I had to double check the
actor who played young Quinn’s character to see if I am seeing right. Yes, Roger
Lloyd Pack, Trigg from Only Fools and Horses....
