American Music Awards viewership might have dropped to an all-time low, to 7 million viewers, down 31 percent from last year’s show and 30 percent from the previous all-time low in 2012, but it’s audience reach skyrocketed online.
Partly because of skimpy outfits celebs picked for the event, but mostly because of
Gigi Hadid’s
impersonation of Melania Trump (starts at 2:20).
I think a part of it was hilarious. No matter how many times I replay it, it never fails to bring a chuckle out of me the second Gigi sucks in her cheeks, and besides the voice, tries to do an impression of Melania’s face as well.
The part of the sketch that I don’t get, that I find out of place, a wtf moment, is when she starts to speak. Instead of
Melania Trump, she starts to channel
Michelle Obama. It just doesn’t make any sense, at least not to me. Perhaps, when she was rehearsing, she realized that it might be a touchy subject and wanted to stay neutral somehow, but, judging by the reactions to the whole thing, failed.
